BIOGRAPHY

Christopher Leo Cloutier (1960 - ) is an American artist, Illustrator, Print/Poster restorer, and Filmmaker who has maintained his Brooklyn-based art studio since 1983. His restoration studio, Posterfix, opened in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 2010.

Born in the industrial New Hampshire city of Manchester, Chris is the son of Leo Edward Cloutier and Laura Louis Bertin Cloutier. Chris grew up in a house with lots of mass media influences, as his older brother Jon Craig had been a young beat-nick painter, and then a professional film maker; his father Leo a well know regional Sport writer and broadcaster. His mother Laura was an artist as well, working in watercolor and oil. These role models shaped Chris from the beginning, but there was another who would shape his future art-collages: Ida Bertin, his live-in Grandmother. Her braided rug-making using scraps of fabrics she had saved for decades. The notion of making something new out of left-overs, something beautiful and useful, was to remain as part of Chris Cloutier’s creative drive throughout his life. In high school, his art instructor Charles J. Andres would prove a major inspiration in Chris developing his art spirit.

After attending college at New York University and graduate school at the School of Visual Arts,

Chris has worked in media, commercial printing, pharmaceutical law, as well as art restoration. His skills with collage and paper has led him into vintage poster and print restoration. His company Posterfix Corp offers Linen backing and restoration of vintage original paper ephemera, prints, and posters. Chris has created Art all of his life, and currently works & resides with his wife and son in Brooklyn New York.
